When Fender started making these at Corona, they changed a few things, most notably the increased neck angle to give it more string break after the bridge. Better for playability, intonation and sustain, and they put risers under the pickups. This baby rocks! Great for rockabilly, rock, jazz, country and funk!

These are the DeArmond 2000 pickups, NOT the 2K. Better output and gain. In the middle position they are humbucking, but even on the bridge pickup or neck pickup alone, it's quieter than my strat. These pickups are very clear, full-sounding and on the bridge pickup has tons of snap and bite, which is easily dialed in and controlled with the volume control. Responds very well to the way you play.

It is a true hollow body arch top...no trestle bracing, no sound post. Feedback wasn't really an issue except at very LOUD stage volumes, so I placed a block of foam under the bridge and at the f-holes. No feedback at any volume, and it looks cool! And still sounds good acoustically. Easily removed if desired.

They offered it in Translucent Orange, Fiesta Red, Black and some sort of blue. Mine is unique in that it IS translucent, but its more red than orange! Just gorgeous! (The iphone pictures do not do it justice!) I've not seen another finished like this. It's like a Translucent Fiesta Red (which they didn't make!)

It's in excellent + condition. I upgraded it with an ABR Tune-O-Matic bridge, the Callaham string-through Bigsby bar, (no more pins! YES!) Dunlop Dual Design strap-locks, and Grover Locking tuners! String changes are a snap! The bridge is NOT pinned...but a small slice of very thin,-double sided scotch tape, along with the increased string break behind the bridge, and this thing does NOT move at all! Yet, if you want to experiment with different string types and gauges, you can and still have it intonate perfectly. (I NEVER "pin" the bridges on ANY of my archtop guitars...there's really no need, and it limits you in string gauges/types). You ought to hear this with flat-wounds! Surf-a-mundo!

It really stays in tune when using the Bigsby and intonation is spot-on! I use D'Addario 11's.

I simply do not play it much and I have too many guitars! I needed to buy a used car, so I need the cash more than I need this guitar!
It stays in it's original case too, which is in great condition!

Here's a couple of pics with the pick guard off (so I could trace it for GAD) and to show the finish and the wood:

Good luck with the sale -- wish I was in the market! Really does seem to be a one-off finish, as best I can tell. It's definitely not the standard orange.

I'm thinking it's actually Transparent Red.
When he first showed it to us when he bought it, I thought it was just a fluke of my monitor that it looked redder than I expected, still thought it must be the Tennessee Orange.
Now I agree, think it's a "legitimate" color but just not "standard" for X160's.
And Trans Red did appear on first year Coronas.
And the playability upgrades would be enough to make me take the electric plunge, if money were no object.
Good Luck Retro!
