I believe I will be listing both my F 40 GSR Cocobolo and my F 47 KC GSR soon on Reverb.

My notes say the F 40 GSR had a Carpathian Spruce top and that there were 30 of them made. I'm not positive that's true but that's what I have in my notes

Can anyone tell me the type Spruce used on the F 47 KC GSR and about how many were produced?

Thanks!!!

Thanks Rayk. It for sure is a bear claw top, I just didn't know if it was Sitka but it likely is. I had thought there were less than 50 produced so your recollection of 20 may well be right.

For everyone else, I bought the F 47 KC GSR from Ray and as many of you know, he's pretty demanding when it comes to the cosmetic condition of his guitars. It's very nice.

GSR F-40 Cocobolo:
From the Guild webpage in 2010:
"Introduced in 1954, the F-40 Valencia was one of the original Guild flat-top models. Its unique Grand Orchestra body shape features a wide 16" lower bout and a narrow shoulder area (upper bout) that results in a guitar that is incredibly well-balanced, responsive and versatile. This limited special run version of the F-40 model pairs a solid Carpathian spruce top with solid Cocobolo back and sides to create an elegant and refined guitar with a strong and beautiful voice.
Carpathian spruce (Picea abies) is a superior tonewood that comes from Europe's Carpathian mountains. With an excellent strength-to-weight ratio and a slightly brighter tap tone than some other types of European spruce, Carpathian spruce is considered by many to be the ultimate top wood for guitars. It has a strong, clear voice with exceptional resonance that results in a touch sensitive and dynamic guitar.
Cocobolo (Dalbergia retusa) is a beautiful tropical hardwood that grows along the Pacific seaboard of southern Mexico and Central America. A true rosewood, it is highly prized for its rich and complex tonal properties and its distinctive grain pattern and color. Its warm, robust sound and black-streaked brown-red color have led many to compare it closely to Brazilian rosewood.
You will be stunned by how these exceptional tonewoods respond with the F-40's unique shape and dimensions to create one of the most amazing-sounding and visually striking Guild guitars to date!
Other special features include ivoroid body binding, Cocobolo headcap with pearl logo, ebony fingerboard with pearl "G" inlay at the 12th fret, ebony bridge with bone "Parisian eye" bridge pins, abalone rosette, custom gold Gotoh® open-back tuners with engraved buttons, and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Each guitar includes a hand-tooled Guild® leather strap and a Planet Waves® soundhole humidifier. A tortoise pickguard is also included in the case if you wish to install a pickguard on the guitar (professional installation is recommended).
"
List price: US$ 4,499.99

GSR F-47KC:
From the Guild webpage at that time:
"The GSR F-47KC is a special-run version of our eye-catching F-47 cutaway model. It features a solid bearclaw Sitka spruce top and solid premium koa back and sides that, along with its Florentine cutaway and custom appointments, give it a captivating visual appeal and a clear, articulate voice. It also features the 18-volt D-TAR® Multi-Source™ pickup system for exceptional amplified performance.
Other special features include an ebony fingerboard and bridge; ivoroid body, neck and headstock biding; koa headcap with mother-of-pearl “Vintage G” logo; mother-of-pearl block position inlays with 12th-fret abalone “G” inlay; custom gold Gotoh® open-back tuners with white “G-shield” buttons; bone nut and saddle; “Parisian eye” bone bridge pins and a nitrocellulose lacquer finish. Available in Natural (821).
Each guitar includes a Guild® leather strap and a Planet Waves® soundhole humidifier. Limited availability. Release Date: Spring 2012."

List price: US$ 4,949.99

For both guitars the produced number was never disclosed, but typically max. 20 or less. We have seen a few already, so that should fit.

Hope that helps!

Ralf, you da man, man. I must not do Google searches very well. I for sure did not see anything like this pop up. Lots of good info in your post and I much appreciate it. You are now officially in my will.
