Hi,

I'm new. Can you tell me more about this guitar?

F-30, # 32051.

From some readings, it seems like it's a vintage guitar made in the 1950s. I'm also wondering why there are three holes with stickers covering it. Was it damage or that's the way it's built.

Tell me everything!

Thank you,
Wendy

Welcome!

I’m sure some more knowledgeable folks will chime in soon, but nice guitar!

Are there letters prefixing the serial #?

Hi Wendy,
At some point in the past the guitar was converted so it could be plugged in to an amplifier. The two small holes either side of the sound hole show where a pick up once was positioned. The three larger holes were where controlling knobs for the pick-up were one placed then removed and the holes repaired.
I'm sure Hans will be able to confirm the year it was manufactured .

Hello Wendy,

Welcome! If we go by the serial number then this particular guitar would have been made during the year 1964. But before I start looking into my files to see if I can find some more info, can you tell me if the serial number that you gave, # 32051, is indeed the number that is stamped into the back of the headstock. The reason is that your guitar doesn't completely conform to the specs of a guitar from the period that, according to the serial number, it seems to be made in.

Maybe you could post some extra detail photos of the label and the back of the headstock, showing the serial number.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

What I can see is that the guitar has a second label on top of the first one, could explain what Hans is seeing.

A correct, high qual replacement pickguard would at least cover two of the holes.

What an inconvenient and obstructive place to have control knobs!

Thank you everyone! I do love your comments on the guitar. It looks like 39031 on the back if I zoomed. I need to ask my mom to take a closer picture. I can't guarantee quality of pic! Haha.

Fun fact: my mom bought this guitar at a yard sale before Google was popular / invented for less than the price of a candy bar.

Wow! The deal of the year! My favorite Guild model, too. When do you start up lessons?

Oh yes! I want to start lessons soon maybe at School of Rock? (been musically inspired lately). My mom took lessons with it but she doesn't play anymore because of pain.

The funny thing is I can't even get a beginner guitar off Facebook / Craigslist / Walmart for less than what my mom paid. I am assuming this guitar would sound better than the ones I'm looking at now.

Tell your Mom she got the deal of the year! And yes, keeping in mind that it might need a set up (adjusting the string height, making it easier to play, etc.) it will absolutely sound 200% better than a guitar from Wal-Mart!

Depending on the condition, as it relates to adjustments that would be made to make it easy on your hands and fingers, this is a model Guild that's quite sought after by acoustic players, usually valued between 1 and 2K. The key would be to start with something easy to handle, most importantly, regarding string height above the frets, so I guess I'd recommend you haul it into a good music shop to have it assessed for any issues, and to have a pro set up the comfort level to your liking. Sore hands and fingers are the prime complaint of stringed instrument students.

This is Walrus 'certified' info.

I'm seeing 39091 on the back of the headstock, but then again, it's kind of far away. Either way it doesn't match the 32051 you relayed from the label. What a mystery......

It's a beautiful vintage guitar, Wendy, and we're all very jealous and happy for you! I'll bet it sounds amazing. Hang onto that guitar and don't let anyone talk you out of it.

So what's the story of the two labels ? Does the label also show 39051 like the headstock?

My mom told me the serial number, it might have been too blurry for her to read correctly. I'll ask her if there are 2 labels. Stay tuned!

Should I even bother getting a beginner guitar? I can't get one for less than $50 unless I become a bargain hunter like mom (and she hasn't played her Guild in a while).
