My wife is considering a small guitar to learn on. The salesguy at a local GC tried to sell her a Gibson L00 bluesking. She liked it 'cause it was purdy, but said the neck was kinda narrow and hard to make chords with.
I was thinking the F-30 Aragon in Vintage Sunburst.
How do these two models compare? I know the Gibson has a dovetail neck, etc. What kind of neck joint does the Guild have?
I believe the Guild has it hands down in quality, finish and ease of playing. But I'm biased.
I know these little Gibson's are very popular, historic, etc. But it just seems like you get so much more for your money with the Guild.
And it was almost half the price of the L00.
Comments and suggestions welcome.

Excuse my ignorance, I know what an F30 is, but what the heck is an Aragon?

West, it came straight from the Guild catalog, or online at http://www.guildguitars.com. Traditional series, F-30 Aragon, or F-40 Valencia models. I guess this is what they called 'em way back when.
Oh and coastie99, two grand seems pretty high at Music 123, I've seen 'em for about $500 dollars less out the door.
It pays to shop around I guess.

I'll just surf your wake since I'm looking into the F-series myself.

All Gibsons have dovetail neckjoints, as do all Guild with the exception of the new Contemporaries. Then of course bolt-ons can be designed and executed very differently.

Edit: $1650 for the F-30 at GuitarAdoptions
The CV-1 is $1500

IMHO It'd be the rare Gibson, (anything acoustic), that would compare well with a Guild acoustic.

I played a new F30 here in a shop a while back, nothing fancy about it, but was nice, sweet player, exceptionally "Live" & sold in just a few days. About $1600 maybe $1700 I think was the price, mebbe 1799 ? The F 30 would be hangin on my wall if I hadn't already bought my CO 1. They got an F 40 & CV1C Dtar in at the same time & both are still unsold.

I think the same shop has sold 3 new D 40's since they started stocking Tacoma Guilds a few months back. A very pretty D 55 came in with the original order & it's still hanging on their wall. ???

being in NYC there's a great opportunity to hop on the subway and try these babies out. in particular, i played my '68 F30 (uh, Aragon) against a real deal '38 L00.

Lemme tell ya, these are two completely different guitars. I'm glad Guild and Gibson reissued both of these (and hopefully they are pretty faithful repros) because they both are really great axes. The F30 is wider, but the L00 is just as deep (well, by feel). Both do Fingerstyle just fine, but when you start pushing it the F30 starts getting more, uh, "spread out" while the L00 just gets louder but still very defined. So if you want to fill out a (small) room, get the F30, and if you want to cut through it, get the L00. Sorry if that's not helpful, but it's really hard to describe such different sounding guitars.

Oh btw the neck on the L00 was narrower, but deeper, and both are chunkier than a low profile modern martin or typical taylor neck - but both are actually more comfortable to me as a result.
