This is a project guitar I bought for $500 on Ebay from a guy in Hawaii. It is in very rough shape. I plan to rebuild this and then either keep it or sell it, depending on how it turns out. It will need a neck reset, a new bridge (existing bridge is 1/8" thick Brazilian Rosewood), new saddle, possibly a new nut, top binding removed and re-installed, new pickguard, sides re-glued to end block, headstock of neck re-glued (center strip is no longer bonded to one side of the head and you can move it), new heel cap for neck, new black (original was celluloid and it peeled off and shrunk, so I plan on using Ebony) headstock veneer with Chesterfield logo and Guild header in white, new tuners, hole plugged where cheap pickup was installed at end block, frets leveled and polished, and a total refinish with nitro lacquer. There may be more, but this is what I can see now. After removing the pickguard, I am beginning to think the top may be cedar, due to the color of the wood under the guard, the texture of the raw surface, and the very brown color of the rest of the top. I have never heard of Guild using cedar on their flat tops, and it seems like a 12 string would not be a good choice for it, but who knows? After I get the bridge and the neck off, I will remove what's left of the original finish (not much) and see what it looks like.
If anyone can shed some light on year of manufacture that would be great. AE seems to indicate F-212XL, as opposed to AN for F-212. The lower bout is 17" which corresponds with that. None of the Guild serial number searches cover the AE prefix.
Also, is there any way to post a video? I have several of the as-is condition, and I am making more of the repair process. I am sure that they would be of interest to the group here.
