Hello Doug,

I'm afraid there is not a website where you can find that information.
There's a page in my book that explains the model designations and model number extensions that were used by Guild between 1952 and 1977.
The book is called 'The Guild Guitar Book - The Company and the Instruments, 1952-1977'.
Some of that information also applies to more recent guitars.
For the rest of that information you will need to wait till Part II of the Guild Book comes out.

Sincerely,

Can't wait for the book Hans, however, a yes or no will do, have you heard of a J-204?

Hello Graham,

Yes, I have but it's not an 'official' model designation. It's an 'in-house' designation that for some reason ended up on the labels during a specific period. Basically it's the 12 string version of the JF-4 and the official designation should be JF-4-12.

Wow! Thanks Hans!

I'm the one who purchased that "unusual" Guild J-204 and I am more than pleased with it!! It is very close to mint condition, and was played very little before it was put away in storage according to Bernie Lehmann, who received it from the orginal owner. The original owner went back to playing his 6-string. Don't know why, as the action is incredibly low, and it sounds awesome.

Thanks for the info, although it is very interesting how the model number got labeled J-204 in-house. Does that mean it was a first-off run or something before they came up with the correct model number?

Hello Jeff,

Apart from the model name that is used in the regular literature, catalogs and price list all the Guild models also have an 'in-house' name, which is used during the production process. At some point they started writing these 'in house' model names on the label. I'm not sure if it was a new policy they were trying out. It lasted for quite some time but eventually they stopped doing it.

Sincerely,
