Probably some bean counter or another calculated that there would at a savings of x/u, u being a beautiful instrument to be wielded by an artist.

That's more-or-less what Neil Lilien, VP of something, wrote back to me in 1973 when I wrote to Guild suggesting a return to the Bisonic from the much-hated Honkmaster TM.

I emailed Guild. Will see if it is bedtime for Bisonics. If it is I am getting a maple ASAP

I think that the original, NS SF bass line appeals to a somewhat "niche" market, a market that may be pretty much saturated by now. The "P-ish" pup configuration and lower price point of the current, Indo-made SFI seems to clearly be an attempt to expand the design's appeal to a younger, less-affluent demographic. This along with the over-all, shrinking of the guitar/bass market (as oldsters of the "golden age of guitar-driven music" die off) and current, tight economic environment settling in.

I've laid in a bunch of "harp" bass bridge parts (a complete bridge + extra brass and wood saddles) and a couple of spare (recent production) Bi-Sonics with the above in mind. At my age, that's adequate "back-up", probably even overkill. The re-issue Bi-Sonics may not be Hammons or Novaks, but neither am I likely to be nominated for the Bass Players' Hall of Fame, so they work just dandy for me.

I like those BS-1 pups!! I like them better than the Novaks I have heard demos of on YouTube. There was a BSDS and BS-1 shootout done by Serek and that sealed my decision that the BS-1 is more to my taste even though the NOVAK is so finely engineered and executed.

Sweetwater says just a promo sale on the green color. They haven’t heard of any upcoming SFII discontinuations from Guild.
Guild says natural, green, and maple are not discontinued. Did not disclose any future plans.

I want one but I am torn between green and the maple and natural. But there is a problem with the naturals. Most online look red, some look tan. I like the tan (see examples of “tan” and “red” below). No shops around here sells Guilds so I’d have to roll the dice if I ordered online.
Course, the trans green is very nice too!

At one time that green was my grail color, but I have deluded myself into thinking I don't like the new Bisonic so it has less appeal. I could buy one and swap the pickups but then I would be buying a project and not a bass. Then there is the reality that I can survive without another bass and the enthusiasm just evaporates.

Indeed if I were going to buy a bass because of the finish, I would hope that the color matched most of the photos and buy one of these. It would certainly be different from the rest of the stable :)1_Full_Straight_Front_NA-ac6216e414c26ff69a9afaeaadfcd4b8.jpg

The color of mine is more "reddish-brown" or "Sienna", like the example on the right. Definitely not "tan".

frono: don;t let the dream die. Swapping bisonics is soooooo easy.
M. Flats: Thanks for the confirmation. I would not get one unless I see it in person first.

Oddly the sale is over but now they are still $1299 even without the sale.
