Sorry, Frono. It was a snarky comment. She was not using the frets above the 12th in the video, which does not necessarily mean that she doesn’t need access for other tunes.

Not a problem. I wasn't thinking snark because I have cutaways that I play because I like them, but depending upon what and where I am playing I often fit the cliché that all the money playing bass is below the fifth fret. So maybe she needs it, but not for this performance?

I was wondering because there are people who believe that the tonal qualities of an instrument are different whether there is or isn't a cutaway so I was asking because you might have heard something that contributed to that belief/discussion.

She does other tunes where she plays up higher on the fretboard to be sure. However, in those tunes and vids, I'm pretty sure she plays a regular dread with no cutaway. I know on Eye Of The Storm she plays in DADGAD with a capo and higher up the fretboard, but on a regular Guild dread. So, the cutaway is a thing, but not necessarily an important thing. There!! That's as clear as MUD!!!

Well, Jerry Garcia played a cutaway Martin D-18 quite a bit, and he made it sound pretty good!

I‘m sure if I were blindfolded, there are probably a whole lot of things I couldn’t distinguish, like the difference between rosewood and mahogany on otherwise similar guitars. Or coated vs. uncoated strings. We tend to “hear” with our eyes, and our assumptions take over.

Random opinion - I love my cutaway Guild '11 F-30RCE!

And I have a feeling she will make any guitar sound good...

The really strange thing about cutaways is that I really love them and the look and the convenience in open tunings. And yet I only have one, my Washburn EA-20! I keep buying guitars that strike my fancy but none of them are cutaways. No cutaways on dreads, tho. That's just an ugly looking guitar. But on the more shapely ladies.... yes. Especially Venetian, vs. Florentine!!
