Wow, we just had a pretty big one! Felt plenty of them when I was living in SoCal (and also in Tokyo), but never in Utah! It was pretty sharp, so the epicenter was fairly close. It went on for about 10 seconds...

Just heard it was 5.7. My guess was 6.3 and Mrs. Cougar guessed 5.9.

No damage in this old house that I've noticed.

Lots of aftershocks rolling through!

Seemed longer than that to me! We got a pretty good rattle here on the east side of SLC (just N of Sugarhouse park)... re-opened some cracks in the sheetrock in our bedroom that I had just spackeled and painted last year. Other than that, I didn't find any damage to our house (1937 vintage). The angel Moroni on the spire of the LDS temple downtown lost his trumpet...

I counted 39 aftershocks listed on the USGS website. Felt two of them... the biggest being 4.5M.

My friend Barbara lives in SLC and she posted to FB as "safe" with absolutely ZERO information, so thanks for the numbers. Glad everyone is okay so far. Thanks for the link to the GS.

Control is an illusion. We have NONE!! :encouragement:

Yeah, that cracks me up!

I just felt another - at 1:08 pm. I'm in my office upstairs, which tends to amplify the shaking.

Whoa, another big one at 1:12! That was above a 4!

Just had another BIG aftershock... probably in the 5 - 5.5M range. Strong rattle, but shorter duration...

USGS says 3.9, but felt bigger (to me) than the 4.5 aftershock we had an hour after the main quake.

Same here! That sure was strong, but I guess duration goes into the calculation....

OK, wait. Now they're saying 4.6 for that aftershock at 1:12. That's more like it!

Yeah... I think there is a lag in the report, and the 3.9 and 4.6 were only a minute or so apart.

A little "Shake, rattle, and roll!" That's enough for today, please!

You know it is time to move to a place that is less prone to seismic activity, if you've been through so many earthquakes that your butt is calibrated to the nearest 0.1 magnitude on the Richter scale!

Shouldn't that be the "sphincter scale"?
