Well, I decided to go "plugged" last night and played through my Crate Acoustic CA-125 amp, pretty much straight up with a little touch of reverb.

First I played the DV-52. Filled the room with music for about 45 minutes, played a lot of stuff, and at some serious volume. What a great guitar. The tone really rings evenly across all six strings. It sounded delightful on "Crazy" and "Stormy Monday" and reminded me what acoustic amps are for too: More volume with less effort :D

But then I switched to the D-25 and played for awhile, and it was definitely a different sound. This one also rings true on all 6 strings but the sound is deeper and darker than the rosewood one, the wound strings are dominant on this guitar. The perfect choice for low end blues, fingerpicking blues in E, etc. , and my partner likes to capo his guitar and play in the higher registers so I gotta have the D-25 when I play with him.

Verdict: gotta have 'em both

I've had both Westerly and Corona D25's. The Westerly was pretty nice, the Corona wasn't. My DV52 sounds great.

I've gotta tell you. . . I've heard them both, and in my meek opinion, the D-25 just sounds more to my liking.

Even though it's the cheaper guitar.

Both are amazing guitars, absolutely basic Guild 6-string dread essentials.
Though, my D15 was sounding pretty sweet at an open mic last night!

Y'know Fungus, that D-17 just doesn't get all the lovin' it deserves. . .

Yes, it does... trust me! I had the D17 out the week before the D15, and tomorrow I'm taking out the Martin 000-15. I love to rotate them so nobody feels neglected! In fact, the night that I had my D17 out was the best performance I've had to date so far.

The D17 is a STELLAR instrument. There is plenty of live performing and recording in that guitar's future. If there was one acoustic I was taking out for regular live shows, right now that would top the list.
