Ok, so the shiny toy-like appearance of the S-73 has always bugged me...it looks like it is shrink wrapped and coated in plastic. I've been thinking about dulling the finish a bit, maybe even thinning it out, especially since there is one spot where there is a ding and pieces of the finish stick up like tiny little knives. Now, this site is not really Guild related, but it outlines and documents some very successful dulling on equally toyish looking Epi Les Pauls. Wutcha think? Worth it or am I gonna eff it up?

I say try it man. The only thing I hate about my S-73 is the Coating.... I'm fine with the color just the thick finish. Very cool and I hope you try it.

Give it a shot. I attempted the same thing with an 335 Dot. Turned out well. The small spots where i had a couple dings in the finish though, i didn't use my sander, instead i just used a piece of emery cloth and smoothed out the ding by hand. I was worried that i would over-sand the finish if i used my sander.

I would try it too. Those Epi look much better like that, imo. And if you take your time, you should get what you want.
