So pretty. So expensive:

Since Madagascar rosewood has become so scarce, the prices have skyrocketed. Still, that one is way overpriced in my estimation. Reverb seems to be full of guitars listed at almost laughable prices. It's a far cry from where it started, that's for sure.

I don't know. A new custom in 2012... What do you think it cost new, Sandy? In any case, that one's a real honey. Still a plain, old, HD-28VS with Sitka and Indian body would be a real gem.

I really like the 28 series. The changing of the bracing across the models makes a really amazing difference in tone across essentially similar bodies.

Probably less than you think. I remember when I started looking for a Madagascar or Brazilian rosewood guitar in early 2021, I got quite a few offers for boutique guitars made with Madagascar rosewood for $3000 or even less, and I passed on all of them because I really wanted Brazilian.

I do too, and found that I actually like the straight braced D28s of the '50s and '60s the best, and I always thought I was more of a scalloped brace type. As you might know, I bought a '69 D28 from @richardp69 back then, and I can't even begin to tell you how much I love this guitar. Those old D28s just had a sound that seems to cut through everything, and although I hate the term "cannon", this guitar really is a cannon. Simply amazing.

I second the miles on it sentiment. Even better if it smells old...
I forgot about this thread, sorry. Here's the dream guitar. I love it. It is a 1998 Martin HD-28VR.

Buying that nice Guild was a mistake I've made before. I don't seem to bond with new guitars. Seems I prefer a guitar with some miles on it, and couple of dings and dents.
