Looks like it might be time for us Florida folks (again) to think about turning our Dreadnoughts (guitars) into Dreadnoughts (large coats used in stormy weather), or even Dreadnoughts (battleships).

Yes; and the last time Tampa got a haircut (hurricane Irma) we got the same haircut all the way here on the central east coast. What looks like little circles on a weather tracking map on T.V. doesn't begin to indicate how large and powerful these things are.

We're up by Pensacola so have been watching close. I do all my prep in spring, but went through my kit, topped off my gas and propane, bought some more hurricane food, etc last week. I think we'll be okay this far west, but I'm ready to go Hurricane Condition One if needed!

Good luck over there!

Edit: great website... www.myfoxhurricane.com

I geek out big time on the models...

Yes, you folks in the panhandle have had your share of this crap over the years. Looks like you will probably be able to sit this one out. I try to stay away from spagehtti models and the news -- just cranks the anxiety up further. I just look at the NHC and go "O sh*t !"a lot. :D

One of my old high school buddies works for NOAA flying a P-3 (Kermit) right into the eye of these beasts. He's based out of McDill outside of Tampa. His first was Andrew!! It's all been a breeze since that one!

Besides the sondes NOAA planes drop into these storms, they now also deploy these big unmanned sailing drones that give info at water level. Pretty neat!!

I'm waiting to see what happens. Looks like we'll be right in the path of it here. Irma hit us pretty hard, Charlie was no fun and Andrew wasn't either

Yeah, this one looks like it's taking an ugly path. Sarasota, then across towards Jacksonville, then back inland. That's when these storms typically stall and just dump deviststing amounts of water on places. Hope anyone in it's path has gtfo'd!! Especially if you're on the strong side of the storm. Coastal surges are nothing to play with.

I'm south of Sarasota, between there and Naples. It looks like it's blowing and raining pretty good, but I don't know if it's as bad as Irma yet
