I own a GAD-30R which I am very fond of. It compares very favorably to the OMs made by the higher end builders. I have not been as impressed by the Guild dreads. If you examine these guitars you will notice that while the bracing on the 30 series is shaped much like standard Martin series guitars, the bracing on the dreads is lower and "squared off" much like the Taylor guitars. Some have commented that the GAD-40 and 50s sound brighter and less full than their American counterparts. Perhaps if Guild had used "standard" scalloped bracing on these models, their tone would more approach expectations.

These guitars also feature a reinforcing lip of wood around the soundhole which makes the top appear twice as thick as it really is.

Nonetheless, these GAD dreads are very attractive and attractively priced as well.
