Hey, just wondering if anyone else has noticed that the "Alerts" (the bell shaped icon) used to reset at regular intervals so I only got recent stuff and the older stuff would drop off. Now I've got a huge scroll of them from the past two days. Is it just me??

It’s been that way for over a year for me. Or maybe we just get that much love!

Yeah, you're right. But I do get frustrated with essential controls that are hidden when the browser is using only 3/4 of the display and don't show up until the browser is set to use the full screen.

In my day, when you walked uphill both ways to get to the data center because that was where your terminals was, and vi (or EMACS) was the state of the art for building HTML pages, that didn't happen :)

For what it’s worth I still do everything through Secure CRT using vi. I miss my Wyse 60 and my VT320.

When I'd log out in the evening, and then log in the next morning, it would be reset with only the newest ones. Now if it says I have 5 new, I have to count down and there's another 20 or so below that which I've already seen. Not a big deal, I just noticed it is all.....

For me the badge only changes if I click on the bell.

Do you actually log out of LTG? If so someone taught you well! I don’t even do that. LOL.

I’ve looked on ebay more than once for old terminals. I live on the CLI.

No terminal emulators for you? I like this one:

SecureCRT is a terminal emulator/SSH client.

I'm not a huge fan of X11, but if I needed it I'd probably spin up a Linux VM for it or use XQuartz. I'm still a bit salty about the fact that OSX used to support X11 natively until they removed it, but since I don't really use it frequently I've mostly gotten over it.

To give you a picture of my mindset, when Windows 3.1 started gaining traction my reaction was, "Why would I want this? I know how to use DOS" and "The mouse is stupid." Hell, some days I think I miss my punch cards.

I used a mouse and bitmapped graphics in 1975 before any Apple product with the features was introduced :) I think that early exposure combined with NOT having a typing class high school contributed to my willingness to use a mouse driven GUI when available. I'm not afraid of a command line and I still use it a fair amount but it is not always the first choice.

Bingo.

In Ye Olden Days Xerox has a major HQ in Rochester and there were several Altos on the campus of the University of Rochester. I got to play, doing some R&D supporting computer analysis of chest x-rays.

I'm not sure there is a 12 step program, for that, but I will keep looking for your sake.

Oh, that's cool, fro. Did you ever get out to PARC? I understand that's where the concepts came from.
