... Black Oak Arkansas?

I recall having what I think was their first "album" in the 70's. I think it was actually on 8 track. I recall liking it but don't really remember much of what was on it. I believe Dancing in the Streets was on it, and maybe See You in September.

I recall sanding antique white oak furniture in '72 with HOT AND NASTY (from their first album) playing on radio station KGB. Seemed appropriate during the Santa Ana winds in early September...don't think either of those songs were on the first album...they were pretty much proto-Southern Rock in those days. In '73 JIM DANDY (to the rescue) got a lot of airplay.

My memory is certainly lacking the details. It would have been '74 or '75 that I had the 8 track. I googled earlier and the cover simply called "Black Oak Arkansas" seemed to look familiar.

I never heard of them. A quick google search told me that they are still active! And this picture here will now haunt me in my dreams forevermore.

I still have my deed to one square inch of Heavern, Arkansas...always wanted to go down there and plant a seed in my square inch.

I'm guessing David Lee Roth knows who they are...

For some reason, topless band photos were all the rage in the '70s.

I remember the band Orleans. In the early 70's, I was living in Boston and they would often play around town. I think that they we're based out of Woodstock, NY. They were just starting out and we would go check them out in small clubs and bars. John Hall is a great guitar player! I think they still tour (before COVID-19) on the "old folks" circuit.

Jim Dandy Mangrum inspired David Lee Roth. That has to count for something right?

There is every possibility I could be remembering incorrectly as far as the songs that were on it as it was a while ago. I remember having an 8 track by them and I liked it, but they weren't a band I heard much about. I likely didn't have the 8 track for long since they tended not to last very long. Lots of people have LP collections but I don't think I've run across anyone who has an extensive 8 track collection.

My mom was from Arkansas, and inherited a soybean farm in Black Oak when my great Aunt Lois passed away. My cousins there knew all the boys in the band well!
