Found this listed on ebay just yesterday and I am not quite sure about it. No label, cracks on the top, bridge is lifting, bad pics of serial number, even the pic of the front of the headstock seems a little off almost like the veneer has been replaced and the a non-guild truss rod cover was put on. But still I'm interested, if it is it looks like a unique D-40.

It certainly looks like a D-40C.

I don't see anything askew with the headstock overlay...other than the non-Guild truss cover.

A little photoshopping allowed me to almost read the SN on the back of the headstock (the made in USA under the SN is also visible). With a little help from the SN lists, I read D(G/0)1010(3/4)(6/8). DG1010XX would make it a D-40C from '83 to '85. My best guess is DG101038, which would be an '85. Send a message to the seller, asking for the SN, if you are interested.

I would think regluing the bridge and cleating a couple cracks should be <$200, so $400 BIN might be a pretty decent deal, if nothing else needs work...

Do you happen to know if these have electronics in them?

I don't know offhand... he doesn't mention any electronics, and doesn't show a pic of the endpin (or jack), so no way for me to tell.

The D40CE model has a Barcus Berry "hot dots" pickup in the bridge. If it had stock electronics it wihh have a "E".

I know this from direct experiance.
In 1980 I used my tax return to buy a Blond D40CE for around $900. In todays $ that would be a considerable sum!

p.s., I sold that guitar about 5 years ago.
