And now somebody also needs to explain why the F-412 and F-512 were called for quite a few years (1987-2001) JF-65M-12 or JF65-12 and JF-65R-12 or JF55-12... I'm just lazy today...

Because George Gruhn could do what he wanted after buying the company (along with a couple other guys) from Avnet. :p

Chiming in here, I have three Guild guitars:

1. A 1972 D25 which started out as a flat-back hog-top, then got an arched back, got a spruce top, got color options, lost all the previous changes and is now called the D20.

2. A 1995 JF55 which used to be an F50, then an F50R and is now an F55 - no changes except for the name.

3. A 1979 F512 which became an JF65R and then a JF55-12 and is now an F512 Rosewood - no changes except for the name.

How's a guy supposed to keep up??? o_O

but to just change F412 to F512 Maple is freakin stupid.
i agree with the reasoning for such frustration over such an insipid and unnecessary move is the historical names themselves. the F412 and the F512.

Just leave them alone. It does not even make marketing sense. I get that chaos sells, and thus the reason why many companies make model name changes. It's something new while not new at all, but at least it is something new to sell. A brand name change can be sold for example as new....

but if you care about the brand you are buying, the iconic models that make you Guild or made Guild guitars "GUILD" like the F412 and 512, just leave it well alone.

Apparently Oxnard were considering re-naming it the 'JF-65MF-412/512 Maple' but decided against it at the last minute.

Not "Oxnards" fault, the marketing guys sit at CMG in Santa Monica I believe! So you march to the wrong location...

Well, that person should also understand Guilds history! Should at least read Hans book!
Ralf

Agreed but that was not a requirement in the job posting. The fact that it wasn't suggests we will continue to be frustrated with CMG decisions.
