Hi folks,

All I've ever seen of cherry wood is kind of boring, but if you take a look at Stew-Mac's wood sets, apparently some cherry wood has nice flame / quilt figuring. Cherry is of course a very sustainable wood (at least here in the US) and might be more appealing to the broader guitar market if more guitars were made from the cool-looking stuff. Anyway, learn something every day!

Cherry can be beautiful. Art & Lutherie, an off-shoot of Godin in Canada uses quite a lot of Cherry in their guitars. Those sets are REALLY nice!!

I have some projects in the works, and I have found a lumber yard about an hour from me that has all kinds of domestic wood. The usual types of flamed maple and figured maple, walnut, and cherry. I got plans for that kind of stuff and I'm really looking forward to working with Cherry.

Yes, true, but we are talking about the tonewood. When I get ambulatory again, I am going back to the wood place I mentioned. I've picked up some equipment that will allow me to process lumber, which will make wood purchases a little more economical than buying a piece at a time.

Well, the advertisement that Stew-Mac sent me had a beautiful set with obvious flame/quilt figure. But I don't see much in the sets that are there now.

I've mentioned this elsewhere, the guitar I should've ordered from Kim back in the late 90s, would've had cherry back and sides.

P.S. All three Godin made guitars I own have cherry back and sides.
