I have 2 original DeArmond single coil PUP's in a large hollowbody archtop that I pulled out to have a couple of techs varify them. They have the long screws through the back and the large adjustable slug magnets. Is there a neck and bridge position or does it matter. I play Travis thumbpicking style and even reading Hans post on adjustment they still don't have a nice sweet tone. Can't get rid of that booming bass. Any P-90 PUP's that would drop right into the cavity like a soapbar or such. Chet Atkins once said the only person that could get a good tone with the DeArmonds was Dwayne Eddy. I think he was right.
Thanks for any help.

My Starfire III has DeArmonds too, and they're very loud pickups, and not the easiest to set up indeed.

If the pickups you have have equal height casings, there's no designated bridge or neck pickup, but it makes sense to put the loudest one in the bridge slot. (measure them out with an ohmmeter)

I have the bass poles sitting pretty low under the pickup's tops, and the treble poles flush with it - the G-pole is under the pickup's top too. If they're still too loud, and harsh-sounding that way, take the spacers from under the pickups if there are any, and lower them.

Thanks for the info. I'll try that.
