Hi,

Some research about value guitars led me to the Dearmond M72, which in turn brought me to this great site.

Lots of useful info here. Many thanks for that.

One thing that has not been addressed though is the neck profile. Might someone have neck depth measurements at fret 1 and fret 12?

Thanks in advance.

Welcome.

Alas I don't have the necks you are interested in but someone helpful will be along soon.

No calipers, so this is a rough estimate: .82 or .83 at the first fret, about .94 or so up at the 12th. Hard to measure accurately, so don't take that as gospel. In the hand, how it feels: neither chunky nor shallow, very much a medium "C" shape. If you're used to heftier necks, this one will feel too small. I don't go for either extreme myself ... the M-72 feels just about right. The edge feels good too, rounded just enough, not too sharp.

For comparison, the S-73 feels similar, perhaps a tiny bit shallower. The M-75T is meatier. Not sure if it's any deeper, I think more a case or more prominent shoulders in the neck shape. Hope that helps.

Many thanks for all of your help!

Yes, I am looking for something meatier. Gibson USA's '59 neck is supposed to be .818/.963 and feels too slim. It seems the M-72 would be similar. I am hoping to find something "closer" to the Gibson historic targets: .900/1.00.

The Jet Star was recommended at the Ultimate Guitar forum as having a baseball bat-type neck, but it has small frets. I have been exploring the M-72 because it seemed more likely to have the sound/frets/reliablity/etc. that I have been looking for.

Smokey:

I love how the M-72 feels, but we all know how personal that kind of thing is. You might try the M-75 or M-77 (with the same Goldtone pickups). Heftier neck, though not baseball bat either. Similar to the Guild Bluesbirds I've tried. On the chunky side, but not massive. I've heard that the Bluesbird 90 (P-90s, unbound neck) is distinctly heftier in that department, but have not been able to find one to try. Pricier on the Guild side, however.

Many thanks, mad dog. You've been very helpful.

I had been hoping for a quicker way, but it seems I'll need to wait for one to turn up in a local guitar shop rather than getting one by mail.
