Ideas for DeArmond D's!!!!
Great Googly Moogly! One of the "D"s that adorn the knobs on my M75 is gone, vanished , missing , disappeared, it has ceased to be!!!
Now the knob looks like what it really is, a cheap plastic doodad with the top off, like some mini-replica of a Chernobyl disaster, except it doesn't glow in the dark!!! Imagine Dean Martin smiling with one tooth off!!!Yuk!!
3 gorgeous Ds that scream"Watch me , folks, ain't I got some nice MIK Guild replica!" , and one black sorry lame duck pitiful thing that says "the dog ate it!
WTF am I gonna do?I know this is a recurrent issue,THE main complaint in the very exclusive DeA-owners-club:(Proud Member!) "Shite! Where's my D gone?-Same place as mine, in the mysterious cimetery in the jungle where the Dearmond Ds die...! I really should have known better, put the 4 immaculate knobs in a safe out there in Switzerland, speculated on the Vintage-knobs black market, and sold them, these things are priceless!!(Look at the prices on Ebay!!Eddy, are you kidding? This is what I paid for my car!)
Anyway, solutions,so far:
-Put on 4 Guild G-knobs..;Are they Metric? I guess yes...Pricey... Awkward G-Armond , a bit on the Bender/Chibson side if you are a detail-fetichist like me..
-Go for 4 gretsch-style no logo knobs, have a D printed/carved on them ...uh uh , don't know, could be nice...
-Who cares , get some some abc parts witch hats with tone and volume written on them and just play that Hot'lanta riff ,for God's sake!
-I'll try this : witch-hat knobs with an aluminium ring graduated 1 to 9 , found them on the E 44 site (electric components).
Question: Am I mistaken , or did I see 2 different scripts for the D on the DeA knobs?
Question 2: Doesn't it happen with the Gs on Guild knobs, or is there an omerta about it?
I know some of us out there have copped with this critical issue, don't be shy, even if you put some cheap stratocaster generic knobs on, confess, you might be forgiven!!
Waiting for your Ideas on those Ds, thank you!!

My DeArmond Starfire bass is missing all four of them, and while I'd prefer they be there, it hasn't really bothered me. You'd have a better chance finding a set of Guild knobs than a set of DeArmond ones.

It does indeed happen with Guild knobs as well. My S300, which I bought new, but slightly shop soiled, in the mid 1980's has always been missing one of the G shield inserts. Been wondering how an insert from a NS knob would look in there

DeA D knob dilemma....Here's my clumsy attempt to solve the DeA M75 lost-knob traumatic issue.
-Bought 4 cheap knobs with an aluminium graduated ring(0 to 9, I love that!!)...screw_on knobs, since I like to screw things...sort of OK, 6mm diameter...Total price 16 dollars...
-Decadryed a D on top, varnished it with nail varnish.
-sanded the bottom of the knobs a bit so the aluminium ring can't cut in the guitar-top ...Put a kind of a thin felt-ring under it to be sure...
Now this is what it looks like:
Any opinions?

Well, I think it needs a good nut, a chrome-toggle switch, and maybe Kluson wafflebacks (isn't that too daring?).Can't find two-pins no-screw tuners anywhere, hate the idea of drilling new holes.....

I always liked the DeA tuner design with the built in studs/pins in the base. I appreciate it would be difficult to find replacments but it was an effective engineering design that made it very easy to install and allign the tuners in place.

Any tip about the tiny brass "pointers" on the NS ITB Bluesbird? If so , what are they ,exactly ?Prongs? Studs?Pins?Westerly Mamallian Protuberances(WMP's)?Brass Bubbles?Guild Golden Warts? I need a bundle of these!!!Does anyone make them?(Check "Joe's Obscure Metallic Blobs Factory,Coldernell,AK) Are they glued over, hammered in, or what?Any reversible DIY replication possible, what do you think?

I figured these tuners were a generic design on Asian guitars from that era..Were they DeArmond specific?

I don't have the patience to search for the thread - maybe Moderators need to recruit Minions? - but people have found them. I think "brass" and "brad" are good keywords and folks found an appropriate size at "hardware stores". My recollection is that they are held in place by friction - the brad is slightly bigger than the hole.

Just to comment, I have been spending a lot of time looking for similar knobs to the ones that Guild used. I can find similar knobs, but I cannot find the inlays themselves for the top of the knob. And of course I don't have a real good way of pasting Guild's logo on top of the inlays even if I did find them. Not to mention the legal aspects...
