Who has a DC5E? They are the least expensive Guild dreadnought, even with the Fishman pickup and EQ. Are they undervalued?

I want to buy a guitar for my beloved brother - he's a fine player, and his guitar was stolen. I'm lending him one of my M-20s, but it's way too small for his music. I want to buy him a guitar. He's a dreadnaught kind of a guy, and he needs to play plugged in - is the DCE-5 a good choice?

I have one, Ebay deal, I think I gave $700 for it for it a while back.

Don't have much of a need for the Fishman & don't play it very often. It's the only amplified acoustic I have. The DC5 plugs in & plays with no fuss, easy to tweak & chase out feedback. Impresses me as a tough guitar, like D 25 tough. Nice neck & action.

My amature opinion is it's not as good acoustically as the DV 62 but if a guy needs an amplified Acoustic it's a good value.

While you're at it mebbe ya could check this one out as well :p

I could sell John my DC5 & an amp & make the deal "0" out of pocket.

Just ran it by the Redhead, not a good plan for future conjugal bliss.

GUILD X170 Manhattan Hollowbody Electric Jazz Guitar - $1100

Does it seem to anyone else prices have moderated of late ?

It would seem there are major scores to be had in the jazz box arena.

Prices do seem to have been softer -- I've seen these anywhere fromn th mid $900s to the 1200 area, so 11 is in the ballpark. Watch for a PM

Any connection to our ebay/craigslist section being a member's only area, out of the public eye for the past several weeks? 8)

I've had similar thoughts.

Also was thinking perhaps the guitar market tracks the stock market.

Probably coincidence.

I just bought a DCE5, after lusting after one for quite a while. It arrives tomorrow; I've not played one, but I like Guilds and I like the looks of the DCE5, and I need the electronics, as this will be my gigging acoustic.

I think the prices for this model have moderated a little bit. When I first started looking at these on eBay, they were selling for $700 to $800 for a nice one. This one I just bought went for a little over $600. Also, I saw a couple that did NOT sell because the reserves were set high, probably in the $700 range.

Anyway, I hope I like it. I'll report back in a few days, after I've had the chance to play it for a while.

Well, my DCE5 has arrived. I've only been able to play it for a little while, but my initial impression is very favorable.

I should mention that I own a '82 Guild D-46, which is a tremendous instrument, and is the standard by which I measure all other acoustic guitars.

This guitar is heavy, like the D-46, which I like. It is well built, not too fancy but the woods are really nice, straight grains; the top is darker than one would expect for a '95, but it looks great. This one has a tortoise shell pickguard, which looks good. It also has gold-plated tuners, which I don't generally care for, but it's not that big a deal.

The action is excellent, and I like the neck. The seller said it had a "chunky" neck, but it doesn't feel that way to me. Again, very much like the D-46. The Grover tuners are great, the guitar tuned right up (it had been detuned for shipping). Also, it arrived with Elixer strings, lucky for me because that's what I use.

So I strum for a while, and the most noticeable thing about the sound of this guitar is that it is very loud, with tons of bottom end, but it's not boomy. More bottomy than the D-46, and not as bright, but nicely balanced across the 6 strings. All in all, it's a great sounding guitar, I think I've found myself a keeper.

I've got a gig on Saturday, so I'll try out the electronics then. It was advertised as having the Fishman Prefix electronics, but that was wrong; the electronics are Fishman, but not the Prefix package. I'll be talking to the seller about that.
