Tractman,
I can only tell you what is in Beesley's "Guitar History #5: Guild Guitars," until someone like Hans chimes in with more direct/complete knowledge of the model.

The DCE1 was introduced in 1993, w spruce top, arched laminated mahogany back, mahogany sides, and bound top edge. Fingerboard is rosewood with dot inlays. "NT" designates "natural top." (is it satin finished? natural satin is the only finish listed)

In Beesley, it lists that electronics as a Fishman transducer with controls in the upper shoulder.
Hope this helps.

Thanks

I think it looks pretty sweet, Tractman. You could ask some common questions, like how's the action and what is the measurement of string heights at the 12th fret; how much saddle height is there; any cracks, gouges, stickers, or murals on it? You might even ask for a video of him playing it posted up to YouTube. The price might be a little dear, but he is entertaining offers. If you decide to pass, please let us know. I might ask a local friend of mine look at it, then, 'cause he's maybe in the market to replace his well-worn D-4!

Good luck!

I will do that, I am thinking of making him an offer tomorrow...I asked him a few questions and he didn't have much of an answer.

I used to own one, and I kind of miss it. Basically it is an acoustic/electric version of the D25. A quality, dependeable workhorse. It was great plugged both solo, and live band situations (although sometimes a feedback buster was necessary for the latter), Unplugged it was great as well: for strumming it was excellently balanced and robust with great projection; it was actually pretty for finger picking as well (it didn't have a ton of overtones, but it was crisp and clean). Mine actually recorded pretty well too, oftentimes better than two other more expensive guitars.

Definitely get some numbers on action, and saddle height as that can be problem with some. Assuming this one's OK, I don't see how you can go wrong - the DCE-1 is an all around quality workhorse.

Incidentally, when I bought mine back in 1997, I easily chose it over a more expensive Martin D1-CE, or whatever it's called.
