Hello! Proud owner of a 1972 Guild G37 blond I bought brand new and have loved ever since.

I have another Guild I recently acquired and I have not been able to ascertain the year of. It is a DV 52 Serial number AD523745. The highest serial I have found for DV 52 is AD522272 in a 1999 model.

Does anyone have a better list where I can find mine?

Also, my G37's serial is 72805. I have seen both 1972 and 1973 for this one. Can anyone verify which?

Thanks!

Welcome.

I would say serial number 72805 corresponds to 1972.

For serial numbers through the late 1970's, the best source is Hans Moust's The Guild Guitar Book. (See separate discussions about cost and availability since it is out of print). There is no better list published online and there are several that are published and wrong.

For the DV 52 Hans probably knows (and if he doesn't respond here use his website http://www.guitarchives.nl/guitarsgalore/contact.php) or stand by since there are a couple of folks who also have data on the missing serial numbers and can usually bracket your number with numbers confirmed by Hans.

Thanks! I have seen both years on the G37 I bought it in 1973 but iirc it was early in the calendar year. It was the second blond G37 my local store had seen, the owner bought the first one.

I'd question the 1973 year.

I bought my '71 JS II in 1972 and have the receipt and that is a lot easier than reconciling my faulty memory with a serial number chart :)

With a small mirror (or even a cell phone) see if you can get a date on the brace next to the sound hole, usually -below- the sound hole.

My DV52, AD523754, is a 2000, so that sounds reasonable.

But I see that Hans has answered, so that's that.

Welcome aboard, Wilmywood!

How about some pictures of both of your axes! Lots of love around here for both!

Thanks! I love the sound of these two, especially the G37. I have a bass player friend in CA who has a 1949 Martin D45 and says this G37 is the best sounding acoustic he's ever heard.
