I am going to do some sound clips of my collection of guitars for a friend of mine, who can't come over to play them due to health reasons, so I made sure they had new stings. The F47R strings looked poor so I decided to try a set of the new Nickle / Bronze strings. Yesterday they were bright and I played the guitar for an hour or 90 minutes. Still bright today. I hope they mellow out. I don't want him to think this is the normal sonic range of this Guitar.

No experience there my friend, but I suspect it's the nickel content. Can you put another 1/2 hour or so on 'em? That's about how long it takes for D'A pbs to start losing their "zing".

In counterpoint, maybe your buddy will love the sound. Everybody's ears different, and all that. :)

Give them a few days same with Martin Monals but over all the NB will have a bit more zing though honestly I don’t notice it anymore .
I use both types and I can’t remember which guitar has them on it ! Lmao 😂

They are louder than the New-ish d'Addario EJ strings on the D-55 and CO. Or, it could be louder because they are brand new. Maybe I'll learn to play Pinball Wizard and really break them in!

I liked the D'A nickle bronze when they first came out, I was a beta tester too. Of course, I broke a string when they were "beta", but I still really liked the sound from them on my Br (D25 flatback)...I even told D'A so in the survey etc...

however, I soon switched to the Martin Monels after only a couple sets of the D'As as the Martins are mellower out of the package.

and Martin strings never break.

of course, this was all a while ago, and due to my SAS and OCD re acoustic guitar strings, I have since moved on away from the Nickel...:) however, i have some experience with them, did like them to start, YMMV and IMHO of course.

i also really liked this initial D'A Nickel Bronze promo video, dude has a Collings and compares EJ16s with the NBs. The NBs do appear to sound grittier and louder...

and the comparison might be medium gauge too, hard for me to tell, but the PB strings sound quite brittle in comparison.

dude rips too!

I often use the D'addario Nickel Bronze, IMO they are not overly bright, less than John Pearse 80/20 for instance. I found them pretty consistent through the months, so if you don't like them now I think you are not going to like them after a while.

People are strange, IMO the Nickel Bronze sound nothing like PB but more like 80/20, just less bright and they last longer.

BTW, they are available in "true" medium light, 12-56, that is my favourite gauge. Right now I am experimenting the Martin Retro on my HD28V (sadly 12-54) and I might recommend them to those who find the D'addario too "bright" as they are more midrange focused.

my fave for the monels are the Tony rice bluegrass which is just marketing speak for mediums. But they are great. I have recently gone back to light gauge, sadly, but not to bummed. Getting old. 😀

and Al will enjoy this. I just string up the D35 with, yup, EJ16s. The bud light of acoustic guitar strings.

That's 4 weeks. I'll ask GAD to knock 500 posts off my total if you make it.

Of course, figuring out which 500 posts to knock off could be a little problematic.....

deal. Honor system but I excel at that. And if I make it? How about a pack of EJ16s?

lol. But I am totally serious.

Nope. Thought about offering a PB025 single so you could make a real L350 set, but remembered the postage would probably kill me.
So sticking with 500 posts off my count, take it or leave it.
:p
Your honor is good enough for me though.

I have a set of D'Addario nickle bronze on my main mandolin, and not only do they sound good, they last. Must be a couple of months now and they don't seem to tarnish. This mandolin gets two hours a day playing time on it. Going to try them on my Martin 00 15 Custom next.

Look forward to hearing how they work on the D 35.

My go-to acoustic strings are the D'Addario Phosphorus Bronze strings. They're inexpensive, and I have found them to last. I usually wear through the winding on Ernie Balls or the D'Addario 80/20s since I use 11 gauge, and as a result have to change the much sooner. The 80/20s are much brighter than the Phosphorus Bronze strings, but I prefer the tone and the durability of the phosphorus bronze.
