D50 vs. D6

My D6 is dimensionally larger than my D50, yet the D50 is noticeably heavier. Rosewood heavier than mahogany? Any ideas?

Thanks to all who responded (far too many to count!) but I did some research and found out that rosewood is, in fact, heavier than mahogany.
Onward.

I wasn't sure which wood was heavier until you posted it, but I would guess rosewood is only marginally heavier. I could be wrong, but I suspect the construction of the guitar has as much or more to do with weight variations than anything.... i.e. the bracing pattern, width of the wood used, bridge/fretboard materials, tuners, etc.

After a little more 'research,' we can consider the ebony fretboard and bridge of the D50 vs the mahogany counterparts of the D6. And only Guild knows about the thickness of the backs, sides, etc.

Rather selfevidently RW is heavier than mahog. Mahogany is a much more porous wood and RW is much denser, maple and ebony more so.
