picked up this at a rummage sale for a church function. heard from outside the area and kept hearing a cannon of a sound on it. I requested to play it and check it over, was very impressed with the projection overall, and purchased it. ser #77845. Thought it may be a g36 bl, but after finding the arched back info, realized it as the 44. LOVE THIS GUITAR. has a notable crack that just developed on the treble shoulder about 3-4 " and taking it in for a lookover/repair. Did I say I love this Guitar?

Welcome to LTG! 77845 would make it a 1973 made guitar. Might be a D-44M (maple back and sides), the pearwood back and sides version D-44 was discontinued in 1973. If you show us pictures of the guitar (front and back and headstock) I'm sure we can identify it. Sounds like it has lost the inside label? But a D-44 has no arched laminated back, it should have a normal two pieces solid back.

Yes, and is noted with a stamp on the underside as such.

Yeah you can see the bracing for the flat back with the book matched maple. Beautiful. Wonder where the label went? Anyway, congrats. That's a super nice guitar! (y)

Yes, that is a very nice looking 1973 "D-44M Bld" (Maple blonde) with solid maple back and sides. Congratulations!

From the 1/1/73 price list:

Here's a slightly later 1973 label:

I only have a 1976 catalog showing one. No 1973 till 1975 catalog available.

Great find! The book-matched, tiger-striped maple back is beautiful. The ebony fretboard and bridge add a touch of class! A nice first post on LTG.
