yeah, the next D25 I get, whenever that is, I plan on getting a spruce topped-arched back D25. The full beast. From my own experience, hog tops strangle volume and projection and tone.

Since that's also the build for the D4 (spruce over mahogany arch back) what are the differences between the two, aside from ornamentation?

Anybody here ever A/B those two?

I hear there is a difference in tone and volume. The D25 arched has more growl, but I have never a/b'd them, will wait to hear form others.

Have owned four D4s, still have two - it's been stated here in the past by someone who worked for
Guild that D4s and D25s were identical except for final finish, but - IME - none of my D4s feel or felt as good to play or
sound as good as a well-sorted spruce-top D25.

I just played a few hours with my friend today who has a lefty 1983 D25M, archback and spruce top like mine. That was fun putting the two of them together.

I have a theory that the archback with no internal back braces acts as a parabolic reflector directly out the sound hole. That's my story, and I'm stickin' with it!

As this is a thread featuring the D-25, maybe I could get away with posting this CD cover here? It dates from 2018.

I don't know if this Spotify link will work but if it does, here is the track:

GOG D16 M is a real stunner. Really neat look to these satin finished all hog beauties, which I'm finding out now that I have "the book", are based on finishes that Guild began using on M-20 M-30 guitars, the first ones ever out of Westerly with a new work force. The book is a gem, btw. I need to do a write up.

The studio shot is pretty amazing, what camera body/lens? Green works surprisingly well as a background.

It's a gloss, not a satin finish.

Canon DSLR, no idea what the settings were!

GOG, same here - mine is a Canon DSLR, EOS Rebel T5i.
Looking for a lens upgrade though, I'm using what came
with the camera.

I have owned a D4 and an Arch back D25, very different sounds, much more sustain and harmonics to the Arch back, the D4, much drier defined sound.

this is tonally what i would expect, thanks for confirming

My 1979 D25M never mind the bare feet. Just noticed that. Compared to my other acoustics, this thing weighs a ton. But has tone like a cannon.

Nice fireplace, nice guitar - although keep them far, far away from each other in cold weather!
I'll do my best to ignore the feet 😉
