I’m looking for some info on how these necks feel. There is no substitute for feeling one in person, but I can’t find one in stock anywhere. So I was wondering your thoughts based on some guitars I’m sure we’ve all played.

I play a 2001 D-18. I think the neck is described as “low profile,” and it has a 1 11/16” nut. Overall it’s very comfortable for me, except when barring chords higher up on the neck. The flat radius gives me some trouble. I’m very used to the string spacing.

I also played the new D-18 with the “modified low oval” neck and didn’t like it at all. It felt flat and wide. I also disliked the 1 1/4” nut. The space between the strings felt so wide.

Again, no substitute for in-person, but I was wondering how the Guilds compare. Maybe it’ll give me a little insight.

My D-40T is comparable to my Martins with a 1 11/16 nut. It's slightly thicker, very comfortable. Like you, I've played a the 1 3/4 (I assume that's what you meant) MLO neck on newer Martins and didn't like it. I've never noticed the difference in radius, though I know there is one. To me it's all about the nut width. From what you described, I think you'd like the D40T.

FWIW - I don't have a D55, but the neck on my F55 feels a little flatter and less rounded, and takes some time for me to adjust to. Not sure how that translates to the D55 (or other F55s) at all.

Thanks, Coop. Yeah, I meant 1 3/4”. I didn’t think I’d notice that much difference, but it was pretty significant.
