I just got this 86. She needs some work but. Anybody have a similar one? What do I watch out for as far as issues ? 377F4495-16FB-470E-8E09-F46019EE5F14.jpeg

dpc,

Oooh, I don't think I've ever seen a filled in original serial number like, although clearly what's left is branded into the wood and so probably is original. Do you have a picture of the soundhole label to share?

Anyway, the rest of the guitar looks wonderful, and congratulations on your new-to-you D-55. Also, I love your picture with Richie Havens! He is (very) missed!

As long as the neck angle is still good and there are no " what's that buzzing sound? " that might be a loose brace , then I think you're good to go.

I had a 86 D50 that was a cannon. D50s do not have quite the finesse as D55s, but I wish I still had it.
tone monster...

I really like the 70s and 80s era of Guild acoustics.

Just super guitars. Congratulations. And I think we've established that to most, runout is no big deal. 😁 Inside joke dcp, she's a beauty.

dpc, I bought a D55 once and the tuners looked identical to that. I had StewMac send me like Grover tuners and it took about 20 minutes to change them out. She looked like a brand new guitar.

When I got my DV52 the tuners, especially the knobs, were badly tarnished as well. I found new gold knobs online and cleaned the bodies up a bit with silver polish, came out looking pretty sweet.

I think that’s my next move. The pick up doesn’t work properly that’s in there now so I have to get that fixed as well but I’m so far really happy with it

1655407089843.png Shouldn't you be looking for a D-40, (Assuming that is Mr. Havens in your avatar

I have one d-40 Richie signature model. But I do have my eye on a 67 D-40. Cause. You know. Lol
