I have a '91 D-50 on hold at Elderly Instruments. I have to send off my '82 Gibson Chet Atkins and the Fender nylon electric in trade. Depending on where in the scale they gave as estimate on the Chet, I may get by with only shipping, but I'm guessing it'll probably be shipping plus $100-200. The Gibson's pretty dinged up, but plays well and is the first year of the model, so that may help.
Anyhow, had to tell somebody who'd appreciate it. I'll give a review when I get it it in my grubby little hands.

Congrats on the D-50, Brad! Definitely get the camera ready. :) :)

Also hope you can get your F-50 back into the kind of shape you want. If you haven't already, be sure to try an F-50R someday. I know I got hooked. ;)

Yeah, I'd love to find a Brazilian one from Hoboken, but would probably settle for anyone that was well made. Probably have to wait until my daughter is out of college (she's 15 now) before I have the money, unless I hit the Lottery.

Nice guitar....A friend of mine just bought a D50. I got to play it for a few hours. It's a Westerly and the guitar rings forever. I didn't really like the set up and strings on it, but the sound was all Guild. A beautiful sounding guitar....chords that would ring forever. I took it to my luthier friend to repair the pick guard (starting to peel up) and to do a set up for him.

Years ago I had a used Hoboken D-50 for a year or so, had some trouble with the back braces coming loose every time the temp reached 90 or so, and needed an electric for a gig , so traded it for an Ibanez copy of a Gibson ES-175-one of the so-called lawsuit models. Had also turned on a few friends to Guild and often played their D-50 and D-55.
Sent off the two trade-ins today, they're supposed to reach Elderly on Monday, March 9, so with any luck I'll have the D-50 by the end of next week.
Can't wait!

I'd be interested in knowing how your trade goes. I had tried to consign instruments at Elderly a few times in the past
and could never bring myself to agree with the way they wanted things done. They have a good rep, but they can be slick. :(

Well, I'm doing this as a strait trade, and if they come close to the estimate they gave on my description of the trade-ins, I'll be happy. They did suggest that I might get more money if I consigned the Gibson Chet Atkins, but I don't want to wait for that to happen.
I bought the guitar tonight, so it's mine regardless, I just am hoping I don't have to pay more out of pocket than I plan, but if I do, I do.

Not as well as I hoped. I described the guitars pretty accurately, and they agreed on the less expensive one. On the Gibson Chet Atkins CE, I described it as:

"As far as I know, all original parts. Back has finish wear probably from a belt buckle, top has a fair amount of wear probably form aggressive picking, maybe with a flatpick or (metal?) fingerpicks. Some tarnish on the metal parts. Case is original except for the handle. I would call the case in fair shape. Plays well and sounds well amplified."
Their reply:
"Thanks for contacting us. We would sell this, as described, in the $1200-1400 range. To buy or in trade it is worth $800-1000. You might consider consignment, our fee is only 15%. I'd be happy to answer any other questions."

Their final offer was $500, saying it needed $83 worth of work (not disputing that), and that they would probably sell it for $800. I would have agreed with the $800 minus the work they say it needs, even if they had gone to $700 or $650 considering the cosmetic condition of the instrument. I'll be very interested in seeing what they finally list it for. If it is, as they say, to be listed for $800 or so, it's a bargain for someone who wants a playable one rather than a collectible.
