I just bought a 77 D-25e serial #152192. What does the "e" mean ? Can anybody give me a little background on these guitars ? Thanks!! Pics to follow.

Hello lonestar-austin,

In those days an 'E' after the model designation usually meant the addition of two Barcus Berry Hot Dots. Look for 2 pearl dots in the rosewood bridge at both ends of the saddle. If not, is it possible that your guitar has a red finish and it's a 'C' instead of an 'E'?
In that case it's C for Cherry.

Just let us know!

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

No end pin jack or "dots" on the bridge. It is kind of cherry in color though. I bought the guitar from the original owner with the original Guild HSC complete with owners manual and warranty card. This being my first "high end" guitar I am very proud out it. Does anybody know what types of wood are used in it ? Sorry for all the newby questions. One last thing I haven't even put a fresh set of strings on it yet. Any suggestions ? Thanks again. I don't seem to be smart enough to load some pics but I love to show her off if anyone can help with that.

Hi, I have a Corona, early 2000s, d25, when i held a mirror into the sound hole, to see the top wood, it was mahogany, so mine is all mahogany. You may have a spruce top, but for sure....it ain't oak!   Steffan

A '77 D-25 would (most likely) have a spruce top, mahogany sides, and laminated mahogany back. I have Jon Pearse 80/20 lights on my '74 D-25, and think they sound great! Our fearless LTG leader (Don) sells JP strings...

Yep, Laminated mahogany back, solid mahogany sides, solid spruce top. Mine is #146147. I recommend D'Addario phosphor bronze mediums :D

Congrats on a great Guild!

It is arched back. I never thought of the mirror idea. But upon closer inspection spruce it is but with really nice "cherry" finish. I guess that is why I could find any info on a "e" because it is really a D-25C. I would still like some help loading a few pics . I assume $350 with OHSC and with owners manual documentation is a good buy. I can only compare the sound to my Taiwan made Martin Sigma DM-4 but so far....WOW !! :D

$350 would be a great deal for a '70s D-25 in good condition... and "Wow!" is a common exclamation the first time someone hears one! Enjoy! Dave
