One of the things I discovered in my upright electric bass build was how expensive orchestral strings are, compared to guitar strings. The bargain set of bass strings that would work for mine was $150 for a set of D’Addario Helicore 1/4 bass strings. One of the warnings i got from the dealer (shout out to Gollihur Music for excellent customer service) was to be careful not to get them twisted when installing or they can get damaged. I don’t know if I inadvertently twisted one when I put them on, but the A string was decidedly dead compared with the others. I contacted Gollihur and we discussed some possible issues. But they also suggested I contacted D’Addario. I did, filling out the request for a replacement, noting in the form that I had had to alter the silk wrap to accommodate my specific design.

They got back to me the next day asking for my address so they could send out a replacement that day, just saying it sounded like a defect. No questions, no mention that I had altered them from factory, just, “No problem.”

I have already been using D’Addarios for most everything anyway, but that’s the way to keep a customer for life.

Glad it worked out for you; buying a set of bass strings is no joke!
I’ve had a similar experience with D’Addario. They understand good customer service is good for business.
I, too am a customer for life.

Beat me to it. And this is just my design. There are plenty of commercial (boring 🥱 ) designs out there. Just Google upright electric bass. (Essentially an upright bass without a resonating body that relies on electric pickups of some sort to project the sound.)

I've had similar experiences with D'Addario. And those, combined with the fact that it's a local (to me) family owned company that treats their employees like family, has made me a customer for life. And their strings are as good or better than anyone's.

This thread reminds me that I need to change the strings that came on my newish JF-55 to an EJ16 Light D'Addario configuration. We aren't bonding the way I hoped and D'Addario may be the last ditch effort to save the relationship.

I'm a life long D'Addario fan on the performance of the product alone. Exceptional customer service is a pleasant bonus.

I've been a D'Addario kinda guy since they stopped making Nasville Straights. (a long time ago.)

I like the D'A PB Bluegrass set on my D25 and D15.

Was out of town yesterday, but got the replacement silk doctored and restrung today. Ringing like it should!
I just tallied up all the Player's Points I have, and combined with the "MERCH50" promo code, got two t shirts and an upright bass tuner for free. Gotta love that!

Stagefright, wouldn't a JF-55 be at least 20 years old? Can I/we see a picture?
You are correct. She is a 1999 model, but the newest in the rotation as well as the youngest guitar I own. I apologize for any confusion.

I can't post pictures at the moment, but promise to do so as soon as time allows.
