In the early 80's Guild came out with an interesting series of Acoustic/Electric Guitars called the "CROSSROADS". Some were less deep the normal hollow bodies, and then they had a matching "Solid Body".

I've been trying to collect the whole series for years and I've gotten pretty close!

Here is the catalog:

And now here are my guitars (and Bass) in the same order of the Catalog!

I have never seen a FB-46 BASS with the two on a side Headstock. However I have a 1982 FB-46-4 Bass:

D-47CE: (This one took me years to find!)

d-47-ce(1).jpg

1983 DS-48CE: (They don't even have a photo of one of this in the Catalog!)

DS-48CE.jpg

1984 F-45-12CE:

F-45-12-CE.jpg

1984 FS-46-12CE: (The "Jane" model!)

FS-46-12X.JPG

Then later in the 80's they produced a few other models.

1986 FS-20CE:

FS-20CE.jpg

1985 FS-46CE-6:

FS-46-6-OS.jpg

Now you see why Volume II of the Guild Guitar Book is taking so long!

Interesting that the Catalog doesn't use the "CE" for "Cut-away Electric" although the Serial Number Lists do. It's also so "Guild" that on the engraved truss rod covers they have the hyphen between the number and the CE instead of the letter and number! (I know we have discussed the non-standard use of hyphens before.)

Hans, please correct any errors in my model "numbers"!

Great post, awesome photos, what a collection!
Had a couple of those guitars pictured, an F45CE and an FS-46CE,
beautiful and interesting but neither one was a keeper for me.
Still glad to have spent time with them!

Impressive collection - and yes - I know it's only a tiny fraction of it what you show now . . .

GofG, I've known of several models in this series for a while, but until you put this post together I didn't know there were so many different ones and that they varied so much!! Thanks for this and it's good to take a little time out of my quarantine to learn something. I'm not quite sure why these guitars fascinate me so much, but they do. Leave it to you to have almost every one!! (y)(y)

Grot, ditto what Nuuska said... FB-46 BASS... Is that what you meant, because otherwise you're searching for something that may not exist. :)

I hope someday you complete the collection! It's frustrating to be one short though, isn't it? You'll get there buddy!

Thank you proof readers! Yes it should have been FB-46 BASS. I have corrected it.

(It was really a test to see if anybody actually read anything or just looked at the pictures! LOL!)

Grot, with you I have to read and look at the pictures. It's always worth it!

Hey, any idea if the Crossroads series was inspired by or somehow influenced by Eric Clapton?

Dang it, Grot! I thought I was all good with my little group. Now I see that FS-46-12CE and it's going to buzz around in my head until I can somehow find one. I'm sure they're all rare, especially the one I want.

If I hadn't taken a chance on a Peregrine I'd have never appreciated the solid-body style acoustic-electric guitars from Guild.

You don't see too many acoustic guitars with maple fretboards (why not). Grot, can you tell us what you think of the sound of these, compared to rosewood and ebony, and what about the playing action.

The FS-48CE reminds me of the Kramer Ferrington.

The pictured guitars with the maple fretboards are all solid bodies.

Nice collection, bet they sound good. It makes me glad I have my DDS-6 and DDS-12 models. The DDS models are a take off of the F-47 only not as deep with the low action Doyle likes, Everyone is hanging on to the few that were made. See . New Hartford wanted them to be one of their best guitars.
To bad Oxnard couldn't keep Doyle, and make more.
