Agreed, love their late '60's and '70's music!

But I love most of the Stones music. "Voodoo Lounge" is a great album, for example.

They are certainly "bluesy", Daltrey is correct there. I've always loved Keith's guitar work and acoustic playing. They are what they are, and they do it very well. One could argue they have become sort of a caricature of themselves on this current tour, but so has pretty much every band of their era that continues to tour.
Wouldn't it be cool to add a hologram of Brian Jones to the act?
Gotta be tough to be a rocker in your mid-70's or even 80's!
Why Grace Slick cut her hair and started painting.
I have a feeling Paul, Roger and Mick are just busting each other.

Well the cops don't seem to want to touch 'em any more.

It’s the voice. Lee’s voice.
Yeah, but nobody else sounds like him. And he's got an almost "cartoony" quality that would only work in rock. Like Jagger and Relf (Yardbirds) with their "punky" voices back in the day.

Took me a long time to warm up to 'em even though a buddy was into 'em so heard a fair selection in mid-80's.

Not a huge fan of prog rock. Don't love Lee's voice but don't hate it either. I respect Lifeson's skill but never heard a tone from him that I liked. I saw their RnR HOF induction and I liked his speech. "blah blah blah, blah blah..."

Having said that, The only Rush I have heard is the few songs they play on classic rock radio and I hardly ever listen to classic rock radio.

Nirvana was for a while. Eventually added a 2nd guitarist.

Never could warm up to Rush.

There is a great, lesser known band that has been on hiatus called Soulive. Keyboards who handles bass duties, great guitarist, Eric Krasnow and a drummer. Though they often record with guest vocalists.
Soulive's drummer/keyboardists are brothers that used to play in a band from upstate NY in the mid 90's called Moonboot Lover that the band I worked for shared numerous stages with. Great band!! Those brothers had sick chops!! I always knew they'd make it in the bizz.

Speaking of Rush....there's another 3 piece out of Canada I loved that many seem to have forgotten. Triumph! (y) (Rick Emmit was a monster player/singer!)

As for Cream....I respect the hell out of them, and for what little they put out in the short time they had together, it still stands up....but honestly, I am just not a huge fan. I actually prefer the studio over live recordings. IMO Bruce way overplays live...almost to the point of my getting annoyed. But that's just me.;)

speaking of which....I happened upon a listing of a 60's Guild Mark I classical not long ago for under $500! Is it really that cheap of a guitar?
To veer, yes, it can be assuming cheap means low priced and not shoddy :) Much of the market does not seem to treat MK I, II, III and IV differently and with you can get one of them and change from $500 with patience.

Fresh Cream was a blockbuster record.
All of us guitar players were waiting for the followup to the Mayall Bluesbreakers records, which blew us all away.
Came out the same year as Sgt Pepper and Are You Experienced.
A mind blowing year for guitar players.

I may have missed it, but I went through the 4 pages of this thread and didn't see any mention of Cleveland Ohio's James Gang with Joe Walsh (guitar), Dale Peters (bass) and Jim Fox (drums).

From the "Rides Again" album here's "Funk #49"

And Terry Reid usually performed and recorded as a trio. Here from the 1968 album "Bang, Bang You're Terry Reid" is the song "Without Expression". Guitar, Keyboards and Drums (keyboards doing bass on the foot pedals of the organ)

And a live Terry Reid performance as a trio of the song "Friends" from TV in 1969. Man, I always wanted to be able to sing from my guts like this guy could!!!

The Nice - a trio Keith Emerson played keyboards in before he was in Emerson, Lake and Palmer.

From 1970, England's Atomic Rooster with the tune "Death Walks Behind You". It has about a 1 minute intro before the song kicks in. Keyboards, guitar and drums.
