A friend of mine has a Corona built X150 or X175 (I forget). I like the sunburst on it and it seems to be very well made, nice neck and fretwork, but it has the same type of thick finish and dark sounding humbuckers (HB-2s I suppose) that characterize the later RI-built guitars. It's a bit heavy too (again, like the later Westerly guitars tend to be compared to the older ones). He does have D'addario Chromes on it which are not helping the darkness issue, but he likes that sound.
There's certainly nothing wrong with the way it looks or plays and the things that bug me about it are matters of taste rather than objective quality.
I like the NJ built guitars, that's all I have.
