Coil tapping a Guild bucker

I recently started reading about coil tapping and I thought that might be the best of both worlds. I like the 'bucker on my X150, but I love that SC sound too. My luthier (Mike Lull) says it can be tapped and controlled with a push/pull vol pot but won't sound very P90ish. More Fenderish? Has anybody's tried this?

Yep, I did the very same thing on my X-150D a few years back. Tapped the neck pickup with a push/pull pot. It's ok & I do use it from time to time. But it's really not a huge change & doesn't approach a P90 or hot single coil sound.
