Didn't know where to post this question exactly but was just wondering if anyone knew what Classical guitars the Eagles used in their Hell Freezes over reunion remake of Hotel California

Even if they're not Guilds, it sure is an excellent demonstration of some rockin classicals.

There's one for ya Walrus, when your new baby arrives. :)

Not 100% sure what guitars they were playing on that clip, but I don't think they were Guilds. To the best of my knowledge Guild never made a classical with an extreme cutaway like that, but knowing that some of the Eagles members have been Takamine endorsers I would think that they were using Takamine classicals, similar to the one in this picture.

Thanks, iamru2 - I agree that's a great remake. My favorite "pop" song using a classical is "And I Love Her" - I love how George Harrison used a classical to get a whole different feel on the song, hard to believe they (and we) were all so young at the time. I am planning on learning it when I get the Mark II.

The only artist I know of who used a Guild classical is of course Charlie Byrd. I have been listening to some of his stuff - very cool how he plays jazz on a classical. I'm hoping to try a few new things with it, and in general use the fat classical neck to "stretch" out my fingers and chording skills a little more - always room for improvement!

Walrus,
A little off subject here but you would love attending the Classic American Guitar Show on Long Island, if you haven't already. Although they have EVERYTHING, they lean toward the Jazz scene with a group of Jazz performances during the show.

You could take your D-64 and let George Gruhn check it out in person! Not sure if he'll be there this May but he's been to most of them from the beginning. If I was still in the area, I'd offer you a place to hang your hat and I'd take my 66. If I knew then what I know now........oh well.
Anyway, just a thought. Security is high there with all the valuable instruments and they definately encourage bringing your axe, after all, thats what guitar shows are all about.... :D

That is one of my favorite pieces, done in that itimate way. Pure acoustic sound, done live on stage.
If you look closely at the opening scene, you will see on the upper shoulder of Don Henley's guitar a preamp for the pickup. That most likely is indeed a Takamine guitar.

(Excuse me, I may be wrong about Don Henley, don't know all their names. Sorry.) Which member is that in the opening riff?

Takamine nylon stinged guitars have pretty much the best sound going in the acoustic-electric field. IMHO. Never owned one, maybe someday.

Actually Don Henley is the Lead Vocalist on Hotel California. Glenn Frey (dark solid shirt) has the black axe, Randy Meisner plays the bass and vocals, and I'm thinking the player You are referring to is Don Felder.

Everyone knows Joe Walsh so.....shoot me if I'm wrong!

Just a little correction Timothy B Schmit is the bassist in that video. Meisner hasn't been with the group since '77 after the album Hotel California came out.
