Well I'm bringing the DC5E to church on Sunday; they purchased it from me. So I get to play it on Sundays when I'm leading music. dc5e.JPG

That’s a fine guitar made for the stage. I really wished the one I bought from GC wasn’t a complete wreck.

I gave the church council a little guitar education when I showed them this guitar. I started with "American hand-made acoustic guitars are to guitar players like Harley Davidsons are to bikers."

Then I pointed out all the deluxe accoutrements: ebony bridge, ebony fingerboard, ebony headstock overlay with MOP Guild/Chesterfield inlay, bookmatched AA spruce top, rosewood back & sides, full body binding, Fishman electronics...I said "they don't give these options away!"

In my estimation, if Guild were offering this model today, it would be around $3,499.

Hope it doesn't find its way in the Sunday school class.

Actually I hope it does find it's way into the Sunday School class as long as it's being played by a competent musician.

July 1995 price list for the DC-5E. Costs about the same as two new D-4’s which is understandable due to the difference in specs

Just saying, that's a nice guitar, and yes, in the right hands and under supervision fine, but nevertheless, kids will be kids.

Yeah, I get it. This guitar is locked in a special room, so it's not going to be just lying around for the kids to grab.

It was 1972 and a buddy and I offered up some basic lessons based on the music we have been playing in church for several years. A young boy about 9 or 10 comes in followed by mom, dragging an old tweed looking hard case. Mom says " Grandpa is letting junior (sorry I have forgotten the young ones name) use the guitar he bought. Case opens to display a pre-war Martin 000 with obvious wear but obviously cared for as well. We had to gently tell mom that perhaps Jr should have a nice Yamaha to learn on and save Grandpa's guitar for a little later when he is "better prepared". (and big enough to actually carry it and care for it......)

I've witnessed kids dragging nice guitars from room to room before, err.

How funny, I bought a DCE-3 that arrived the other day from GC....stated as "EXCELLENT". Finally got there yesterday...I always have them delivered to the store in Syracuse where there is a pretty good crew there. Arrived w/no case and was pretty rough....If it wasn't for the crack from fretboard to soundhole I may have chanced it but it didn't sound good either.

That’s what made me return that DC5E. Not one but TWO cracks from the fretboard to the sound hole so it was a ticking time bomb which made me a bit sad seeing this was supposed to be a pretty well spec’d out guitar.

Wow, and that was almost 50 years ago!
