Thank you for posting this - I am a huge Chris Squire fan, so when someone asked me to play some Close to the Edge with my AleM-85, I was like, fretless Chris Squire? Do you mean the song where the bass is played by Trevor Horn on Drama? No, apparently he used a fretless JS-II that would be mounted on a stand in live performances! It looks like it has the (then new) humbuckers and basic controls like mine (VVTT and selector switch, no master volume) - I believe that mine is from the beginning of the transition as is this one - Close to the Edge came out in 1972! There is very little information about this on the internet - not necessarily a bad thing - but this deserves to be better known.

looks like the photo is from Jan 10, 1974. The Guild does looke modified at the waist somehow, possibly to be secured in a stand.
