Hi, I've just bought a Guild B30 ABG, it's on the way. It is coming without a case so I want to get one, either a hard case (preferred) or even a decent gig bag. I can't find anywhere that shows all the dimensions of the B30, but wondering if anyone can recommend a case that will actually accommodate this monster. I saw a Guardian for sale that shows the inside dimensions as: overall length-48.25" body length-21.5" lower bout-17.5" upper bout-13.5" depth-6". I know I can wait until the bass arrives and measure it, but someone who has already been through this can get me ahead of the game. Thanks.

Wow, ok that Guardian case isn't going to work. Maybe I can find a gig bag with some flexibility that will fit it. I have a feeling this isn't going to be easy.

Welcome.

Not much to add since @Nuuska has one, but I don't expect it to be easy to find. You might want to confirm the measurements when you get yours because I think there was a minor change in the B-30 specs at the time the B-50 was dropped.

It's one of the biggest acoustic basses out there (there are only a few larger). Original Guild cases will be extremely rare and I doubt you'll be able to find a different case or bag that are a good fit. Your best bet might be to just have a case or gig bag custom made, or maybe to have a 1/2 size upgright bass bag modified?
The Guild jumbo bass gig bag currently available will not fit it unfortunately. It only accommodates up to 4.5" or 5". It's designed for their current B240 import model.

The strength of the case depends also largely of circumstances.

If you are ALWAYS going to carry it personally and take it to gigs only now and then - a good gigbag might do.

But if you are playing in a traveling band - and your instrument gets packed by roadies - I am a roadie/FOH-engineer - I can assure you that there's no better insurance than a heavy-duty road case. Surely it is going to be huge and heavy. But I have seen so many piles of instruments packed quite unprofessionally in vans and lorries that I can tell you - and you can trust - accidents happen.

This bass will rarely if ever leave my house. I just want something to put it in if I do decide to take it somewhere and also for resale purposes in case I ever need to sell it. I would be fine with a padded gig bag, but it looks like there is nothing out there that will fit, the depth seems to be the problem.

Years ago I worked as a stitcher in a shoe repair shop. My stitching machine worked in heavy fabrics and leather. If you can track down a long zipper and suitable fabric, a local shoe repairman might be able to work from your template.

lets slow this custom train down for just a moment...I'm no expert on the subject, but recall seeing a seller on Reverb several years ago with a healthy stock of *tremendously sized Guild acoustic bass cases. i remember because i was looking for a Starfire or M-85 Bass case at the time. the acoustic cases were priced right, but not what I needed. they may have been for a B-4 but looked a lot bigger. perhaps they were for a B-54CE New Hartford model. or just a batch of cases that wound up being made for Guild, around the time Fender sold the company, and may have been lost in the shuffle.

in any event, there are other large acoustic basses, besides Guild (Tacoma, Taylor/Martin? etc). If you want a hard shell bass guitar case for it, u can find one. they are not falling out of the sky, but they exist, and could require some interior padding added if too big, to make it fit totally perfect

wait until you receive the guitar to get exact measurements and take into account the bridge and strings and all. then check them all gator, roadrunner, ibanez, etc. there are tons of no-name hard cases on ebay as well. people bang out batches here and there that are just as good as the basic models from gator and all. also, u could explore a 3/4 upright bass gig bag and see if u could work w that.

i think the seller is holding the tape measure off center on the lower bout, and it will, snugly, but properly, likely fit in this case:

but i would communicate w the seller first and make sure. good luck!

As Mavuser noticed - It seems that he is measuring lower bout in wrong place - two inches towards neck it is wider - so that could quite well be the right case.

And price is right.

u might not find another one so fast! may want to just buy it and try to immediately ask the seller to confirm measurements before they ship, or possibly even before u pay.

Wow - I thought I had looked everywhere and I'm on ebay all the time, not sure how I missed that! Looks like that is the exact case I'm after! My bass should arrive at any minute, so I'll measure and confirm. The only thing I'm concerned about is the depth. I'm thinking that lid adds another 1/2" to the depth like my other cases do. If so, I think we have a match!!

Just got the bass, took measurements and I think that case was made for this bass, so I bought it! Thanks Mavuser for finding that! Man this thing is BIG!! I can barely see over the body to see the fretboard!! Sounds great!
