Just realized now why the Guild brand's resonant with me: I'm keen on the oldtime folk boom saga. Read a book recently that sported a photo of Carolyn Hester with a Guild F-30, with the strings, of course!, all curlicued up at the tuners.

I curlied up mine the last string job, kept them there a couple of weeks before trimming them.

Very astute insight Si. I hadn't considered that before but there's a lot of truth in it - especially for us geezers who were around then.

re: curlied string ends - Whew! (Serious sigh of relief.)

Well, I was born about the same week as the 1963 Newport Folk Festival, apparently a real watershed event; great talent on that lineup!

Anyone know if there's any recording of this?
