I don’t usually post anything pertaining to that other G guitar brand, but this custom L-5, one of four made for Carl Kress, is just stunning. And since they didn’t let Lemmo touch it, but called in someone who can actually play it like it deserves, I’ll share the video.

A beautiful instrument, and I've long enjoyed the tunes of Kress & Lang, as well as Lang & Venuti. It's been quite a while since I last listened to them, so this prompted me to do just that - Many thanks for posting!

That guitar is so cool even without the Kress association!

Lovely guitar, indeed.

Veer: Later in life, Mr. Kress seems to have switched allegiances:

A play-along record.

I'm a huge fan of this era of jazz guitar music, and I love Joe Venuti and Eddie Lang and all the small combos that yielded the early Benny Goodman stuff, Django, Jack Teagarden, etc. So cool.

Jonathan Stout is a great player and musical historian and really does this guitar justice. He's a got a great youtube channel.

Great post GG!

Love that era of jazz guitar too, but it's the Eddie Lang / Lonnie Johson duets that I dig most!

Bull Frog Moan:

Eddie lang recorded quite a catalogue of great music. If one is at all interested in acoustic guitar accompaniment, it is well worth the time to listen to his recordings as a leader and side man. A consummate musician.

I'm such a big Carl Kress fan, his Duets with Eddie Lang, Dick McDonough, Tony Mottola, George Barnes and his solo stuff. He did small ensemble work with Adrian Rollini, those were great tracks. I was very glad to have gotten this Guild that is just like his.

That Guild is simply spectacular, and I doubt there are many like it around.
I have been trying to get a count on all the Guild guitars that I have seen on the internet that have these rare DeArmond pickups and I've counted about 8 so far. I've seen two Starfire 3s, 2 x-500s, 3 x-550s and Duane Eddie's personal model.
