Guitars are deceptively complex designs called LCR circuits. The simple fact is that everything affects the tone (resistance, capacitance, and inductance), sometimes in complex ways.

Remember, too, that these are AC circuits and response varies by frequency so I’d love to put it all on a scope with a frequency generator to make some graphs, but I couldn’t tell you off the top of my head.

I might add that my impression of old guitar circuits is “treble is the devil” so they liked to design it out wherever they could. That’s in no way canonical fact - just what it seems like to me.

I don’t know from vintage but, Is the harness worth $$$$?
If so would be interesting to remove whole harness, keep it in a safe place intact, and do up a new harness to your liking.
