Suppose you have been given $10K US. You must spend it on a stringed instrument. You can spend it on more than one instrument but you aren't playing my game if you buy a guitar and an amp or maybe even the used van to haul them around in. Pretend you are going to own and play it for at least a year. Perhaps this is the "Grail" thought experiment with someone else paying so the opportunity cost is not a factor. You either get instruments or nothing.

So I think I start with a "sweet spot" Starfire I bass with a Bisonic so that pretty much means '65 or '66. Next is a a 1970 or earlier Starfire II bass, also with Bisonics. Condition would again be critical but I'm not sure whether the finish would be emerald green or sunburst. If I don't get a green one I suspect there is still some change and it would go for a pre-1971 M-85-I or II to spend the rest.

It's someone else's money so I am willing to pay to dollar for condition.

DV-72. Every time I see a picture of one it catches my breath.

F512, unless an F612 can be found. Vintage, excellent condition. Refurbished okay.

Birth year guitar, whatever was Guild's top of the line at that time, excellent condition. Refurbished okay. Can I get braz?

Something maple because I don't have any Guild maple.

Everyone here is way more knowledgeable about Guild models, years of production, and prices than I am, but with the limited amount of info I have on board, that's what I would go with. I don't know if I've blown my budget or not.

Not sure what I would buy, but pretty sure I have the amplifier side covered already.

Maybe a green Starfire lll with beveled DeArmonds?

I want the original "Brock Burst" 1959 Les Paul from Beauty of the Burst.
That's a bold goal! Probably in the $250k range...But with only a $20k adder to the offered $10k you could get that one in the meantime:

Paulino Bernabe "Royal" classical guitar, made by Paulino Senior. Might have to toss in a few K of my own, though, so don't know if that fits the rules. Second choice would be an original Epiphone Emperor.

I guess I'd go with a new Guild F55 burst and a Gibson SJ200 Standard (burst, of course). If I got a deal on either of those, I'd also pick up an older Gibson CJ165 burst with ebony fretboard. And with the money left over, a cup of coffee.

I’ve owned three R9s trying to get that look. The one I have now is pretty close. I should dig it out and take some pics. It has the largest neck I’ve ever felt. Gotta be 1”+ deep at the nut.
