Am I alone on this? The giant thumb knob on my bridge height adjustment screw on my 1974 M75 Bluesbird is very painful on my wrist from palm muting. Is there a substitute that sits lower? Or sits underneath like on an LP. I love my Bluesbird, but she hurts me after playing for a while. Help!!

This type?

It never bothered me. Maybe a quirk of hand positioning?

Hello Paul,

If the height adjustment screw on your M-75 sticks out that much it means your bridge is set pretty low. You can cut-off a part of the thumb screw at the bottom end, but if you don't want to do that I have a replacement screw that is not as long and that may help you out.

It is low. Is that screw available in the states? I know shipping is expensive, but my wrist said it worth it.

No, I don't think you can get it over there, but if I were you I would cut off a part at the bottom part of the thumb screw that goes into the body inserts.
Count the number of threads that are visible above the bridge base, remove the thumbscrew and grind off (or saw off) a little less than that number from the end part of the screw.

Sincerely,

Instead of cutting off the original adjusting screws I cut down a stainless steel hex bolt that fit the bridge threads to the length I needed. Once I got the proper length, I took it out to my buffer and buffed the stainless to a mirror finish. Turns out the hex is the same size as the truss rod nut. Looks and feels great and I did not alter the original parts of the guitar. This is on my 73 S-100SC.
Thanks John

Rebosbro...I'd love to see a pic of the whole guitar:cool:
If it were my guitar I would probably do the mod so it still looks stock as mentioned above.

Neck reset will fix that.

I'd buy some shorter round head machine screws, either slotted or allen, depending on your preference. They'll be nicer on the hand in two ways. I've never had one with the bridge adjusted near that low, though, and, with it higher, the posts never bothered me.

Yes! She was played! Wish she could tell some stories of all the gin joints she played in. Those HB1’s are incredible!

Incredibly cool guitar, great aging.

Strange how the bridge is so low to the body, must be very tall to still clear the pickup well.

Maybe it needs to be played with 80's style leather wristlets or bicycle gloves.

Is that a master volume and phase or coil tap switch?

Do I have to get a nose ring, too?😂
Yep, master volume and phase shifter. Get some really nice tones
