I saw interviews and peformance by Bonnie and Lyle Lovett together on the "Crossroads" series yesterday. Nice to see two musicians get along so well. I enjoyed the show and Bonnie is a monster player and singer and all that, but I was musing about her Guild...
Funny, after a short while I got used to the dual pickguards and realized it's kind of a nice balance in the look (not to mention a trademark for her). What I couldn't figure was whether this was a late-model F-50R or actually a JF-55. The abalone rosette made me pretty sure it's a Westerly JF-55, but the pickguards were (I think) the narrower recent Tacoma tortoiseshell versions. The abalone ring was fully exposed. I think that wasn't true with the JF-55s... am I right?
Also, she clamped her Shubb capo from the bottom of the neck. I was surprised about that; I use mine on top (easy to adjust that way, I think).
Gotta' say, there were many, many shots of her with this guitar and Guild clearly visible. What great advertising for Guild!!! The fact that Lyle was playing a Collings was almost invisible (though I must say that looks like a sweet guitar).
