My Bluesbird is an 'early' Corona model, so the serial no. has a different prefix, CM instead of CL like you guys are talking about.

The serial number is CM00047X. Hans says it's an '02.

One thing I like about mine is that the neck is sooooo big. The width at the nut is slightly over 1 3/4", plus the feel of the neck is very full, I don't know if that is a Corona-only feature or a continuation of the last of the Westerly 'birds. Anybody got an answer?

Hello Rob,

Other than a model number prefix there is no additional dating system hidden in the serial numbers of the Westerly-made Guilds. If you give me the serial number, I should be able to tell you when exactly your Bluesbird was made.

Sincerely,

Hans Moust

Hi Hans,
I have one with serial number CL001783, would you happen to know what year it is from?

Allow me to answer, CL001783 is from year 1999 based on numbers before and after which were dated by Hans as 1999. Often you also can find a date in the potentiometer chamber somewhere handwritten (in my example below from 6-19-2000 with the initials of the assembly person behind)

Hello greenman,

That serial number makes it a model from the year 2000 and at that time they were still made in Westerly.

Sincerely,

For Corona-made Bluesbirds, is there a clear demarcation established between 2001-2002 serial numbers? Mine is CM000085 and is early enough in the transition that it has a Fender Custom Shop sticker on the headstock. It's a wonderful guitar and is my go-to rocker.

I don’t think Custom Shop is a transition thing. I think it’s just a higher tier guitar than a normal one.
