According to the 2000 and 2001 Guild catalogs, Blues 90's came in three finish colors: Black Cherry, Emerald Green, and Ebony Transparent. But I always see everyone describe a "red" Blues 90 as "Transparent Red". The "green" and "ebony" finish colors are always described correctly, so why not the "Black Cherry"?

Here's the page with the finish options listed from the 2001 Guild catalog, the exact page is also in the 2000 catalog.

Bad habits? The '60's green Starfire bass that wasn't mine but started me on this path was described as both Emerald Green and Kelly Green in my circle of friends. I know I have seen Emerald Green as a catalog spec, but not sure about Kelly. But I am likely to say Kelly Green and expect most people to know the color I am talking about, even if it is not what the always right, up to date and never inaccurate catalogs said. I have also seen cases where the name changed but not the color and many people apply the newer name to the older color.

I know this is absolutely the place to nit-pick about every detail related to Guild guitars, but aside when I'm writing reviews, my Blues-90s are just red and green. :)

Here's a thread about the same topic I just found. No definitive answer here either, but a lot of nice photos! Perhaps there simply is no answer. It just seems weird that we've seen so many "red" Blues 90's that seem to be different shades of "red".

Interestingly, the two year old thread I just posted above was started by Richard. Here is the Blues 90 he had for sale, which will be headed my way. It is, of course, the reason I'm asking. It sure looks like it could be "Black Cherry", whatever that is...

I also asked Hans, who said "As far as the color is concerned, yes, that’s what the Guild literature tells us, so I guess ‘Black Cherry’ it is."

That looks more red to me. To me Black Cherry would be a super dark purple like a black cherry. So if above is called Black Cherry they're eating very different cherries than the ones I buy!!

I'm not sure what's up with the actual red color vs color name or whether anybody's ever come across a truly much darker/blacker trans-red B90. As for color names, I'm not sure I've seen too many folks calling the black ones transparent ebony. I'm with frono on the emerald being part of the parlance from its sixties origins and I think I most often see the others advertised/discussed as trans-red/black.
